We’re thrilled to share some amazing advancements in the BOOST II Malt Barley Project, a collaboration between HEINEKEN Ethiopia, IFC – International Finance Corporation, Soufflet Malt, and EUCORD! Running from July 2023 to June 2027, this initiative aims to enhance malt barley cultivation in Oromia, Amhara, Sidama, and Central Ethiopia. Our goal? To support 20,000 smallholder farmers in regions where malt barley isn’t widely grown.

So far, we’ve made incredible strides! Over 10,000 smallholder farmers (with 12% being women) have planted improved malt barley varieties across 8,500 hectares of land. This is a huge step toward improving their livelihoods and achieving our mission.
Recently, we held a successful Project Advisory Committee meeting in Central Ethiopia’s Gurage Zone. With over 200 participants from various sectors, including Heineken Ethiopia, Soufflet, and government representatives, we’re all working together for a brighter agricultural future. In Gurage alone, 1,134 farmers have planted improved varieties on 420.8 hectares!
We’re excited about the positive impact this project will have on Ethiopia’s agricultural landscape. Stay tuned for more updates.
