Heineken Ethiopia marks 30 years of brewing excellence at Bedele Brewery  

ETHIOPIA – Heineken Ethiopia, Ethiopia’s largest brewer by volume, celebrated three decades of its iconic Bedele Brewery. The event marked a significant milestone for the brewery, known for its beloved brands like Bedele Special, Bedele Regular, Harar, Hakim Stout, and Sofi Malt.  

 A special highlight of the celebration was the recognition of 26 remarkable employees who have been the backbone of Bedele Brewery for three decades.   

“On the 30th anniversary of Bedele Brewery, we recognized our 26 remarkable colleagues who have been the backbone of Bedele Brewery for three decades!” Heineken Ethiopia proudly posted on LinkedIn. “They have brewed creativity, passion, and excellence into every drop of beer for the past 30 years.”  

 Nestled amidst stunning flora and fauna in the town of Bedele, 400 km from Addis Ababa, Bedele Brewery has a rich history.   

Since its acquisition by Heineken Ethiopia in 2011, the brewery has undergone significant improvements and renovations. Today, with its dedicated team of over 140 employees, it stands as a sustainable brewery, proudly holding the TPM Iron Certification Award.  

Heineken Ethiopia’s acquisition of Bedele and Harar breweries in 2011, followed by the construction of a new state-of-the-art brewery in Kilinto, Addis Ababa in 2012, solidified their position and challenged the market leader.  

 The Kilinto brewery, built at a cost of EUR110 million, is Ethiopia’s largest and boasts a capacity of 1.5 million hectoliters, producing popular brands like Walia, Harar, and Bedele. 

 Currently,  Heineken leads the market with a production capacity of 5.6 million hectoliters. Trailing closely behind is the former market leader BGI Ethiopia with a production capacity that exceeds 4.3 million hectoliters annually.
