HEINEKEN Ethiopia made its entry into the Ethiopian Beer Market by acquiring Harar and Bedele breweries.
In 2013, we launched CREATE I (2013-2017), a local sourcing project with 1,700 local farmers. This initiative aimed to enhance both the quality and quantity of barley cultivation while supporting farmers in Ethiopia.
Inaugurated Ethiopia's largest brewery, located in Kilinto on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. The brewery was established with an investment of EUR 310 million.
HEINEKEN Ethiopia introduced Walia beer to the Ethiopian market, offering a new and improved taste just in time for the Ethiopian New Year.
Commenced local production of Heineken® in our Kilinto Brewery, bringing the world-class taste of Heineken to beer enthusiasts in Ethiopia.
In 2018, we introduced CREATE II (2018-2019), expanding our local sourcing from 3% to 34% and supporting about 25,000 barley farmers.
Launched Burqa – water balancing project, allocating a budget of 801,839 Euros, to significantly increase water availability near our Bedele (Dabena River) and Harar (Hakim Gara) breweries.
Introduced Bertat, a non-alcoholic energy drink, to the Ethiopian market.
We achieved 100% local sourcing of raw barley and witnessed a remarkable 150% increase in farmers' income as a result of our local sourcing project we began in 2013.
HEINEKEN Ethiopia has been recognized at the National Taxpayer Awards for our significant tax contribution of ETB 9.7bn, earning the Platinum Taxpayer Award for the fifth time and ranking as the top business operator in the private sector.
Our Kilinto Brewery received the prestigious 10th Round Ethiopian Quality Award from the President of the FDRE, achieving the highest rank among food and beverage manufacturing plants nationwide.
